DGMC Phase II Renovations

DGMC Public maps & floorplans

David Grant USAF Medical Center kicked off its new "Phase II" construction project during 2012 in a decidedly non-traditional way. Instead of using golden shovels to turn over new ground, the 60th Medical Group leadership donned hard hats and protective goggles to take turns swinging ceremonial sledge hammers into a wall marked for demolition with celebratory bunting and a red and white bull's eye.

Phase I of DGMC's structural improvement and modernization program was completed in June 2011. The effort marked the first large-scale facelift to the Air Force's flagship medical center since the third-generation facility was completed in 1988. This was done to ensure DGMC is able to provide the patient care needed for the next century and to expand sharing initiatives with the Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure clinical staff currency.

Likened to flying an aircraft while it was still being built, a total of $61 million was awarded for this second phase of facility modernization. This multi-departmental enhancement will include Diagnostic Imaging, Optometry, Allergy / Immunizations, Ear / Nose / Throat (ENT), Musculoskeletal as well as a Cafe -- continuing with the 60th Medical Group's vision of being "...a premier national medical center, fostering innovation, setting benchmarks and preparing warriors for today and tomorrow."

MUSCULOSKELETAL (MS):
The new MS Clinic relocated Podiatry, Chiropractic, Orthopedics, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy into a fully integrated symbiotic operational space on Level 1 of DGMC. New equipment, space and furniture adds to the quality of care. Renovation commenced in December 2012 and opened its doors for the first time in March 2014.

DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING (DI):
The Diagnostic Imaging (X-ray) department received a complete makeover, including brand new, state-of-the-art radiologic equipment: a new Mammography 3D Tomographic System, Hologic Bone Density System, Digital Radiographic system, Single and Biplane Angiography suites as well as an Angiography CT Scanner. The DI renovations began with Interventional Radiology in October 2012 and incorporates each modality around a newly enlarged Customer Service Center as part of the "Patient Mall."

OPTOMETRY, ENT & ALLERGY/IMMUNIZATIONS:
Optometry and Allergy/Immunizations will relocate to Level 2 (second floor) of DGMC after construction near the "Patient Mall." Their complete remodeling will include state-of-the-art equipment as well as aesthetically pleasing furnishings that will continue to enhance the environment of care and augment the overall quality of care. The ENT clinic will occupy the space vacated by AI after similar renovations and upgrades.

CAFE:
Opened in July 2014, this playfully, but appropriately named "Grant Central Station" provides an ambiance of tranquility with its various coffee shop-style seating and vibrant decor. This space features a variety of coffee and other refreshments for visitors and staff, including fresh fruit and pastries.
