As usual, the Travis Team has had a busy week. Thank you for continuing to work hard while keeping safety at the forefront of your mind.

Command chief farewell

Let me be the first to wish farewell and good luck to the 60th AMW Command Chief, Chief Master Sgt. Brye McMillon and his wife Marie as they move to Scott AFB, Ill. to serve as the command chief for 18th Air Force. It has been a short, yet wonderful stint as he led the 60th AMW enlisted corps. Thank you for being an outstanding member of the Travis Team and a great example to everyone, officer and enlisted, at Travis.

Safety is our mission

For all who missed it, please find the time to read last week’s Tailwind, which was dedicated to safety. My concern for the people of the Travis Team runs deep, and I appreciate everyone’s unwavering focus on safety at all times. The base has taken drastic steps toward finding the trends between the recent accidents and close calls. In the meantime, we need your help in making sure you and your Wingman are practicing good safety precautions at all times. Remember Safety is the No. 1 mission here, not on time take offs, not completing a job faster than an Air Mobility Command metric, and definitely not using your experience to cut corners!

No DUIs

It has been 42 days since we started the DUI tracker and I am excited to say we have had zero active duty DUIs since Jan. 15. Let’s not relax now, please continue to look out for yourself and your Wingman. Great job Travis Team!

C-17 Major Join

We are quickly moving toward welcoming the first of 13 C-17s at Travis, tentatively scheduled for July 28. On March 17, the C-17 Program office is escorting a group of Travis people to the Boeing Plant in Long Beach, Calif. to attend a major join ceremony where the major sections, including the center fuselage, wings, empanage and nose, of Travis’ first C-17 will be joined. This is an exciting event for the Travis Team. Be on the lookout for coverage of the event on the local news and in the Tailwind.

Annual award winners

Congratulations to the 2005 annual award winners from both the 60th Air Mobility Wing and the 615th Contingency Response Wing. These people represent the best of the best in 2005.

By the time you read this article, the ‘Chiefs’ will be licking their wounds after losing to the ‘Eagles’ in dodgeball. We will give them another chance in paintball soon!
