TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – “You got it because we bought it,” is the unofficial motto of the 60th Contracting Squadron base support flight.

The base support flight makes up approximately 60 percent of the entire 60th Contracting Squadron with 25 total personnel.

“Our team provides commodities and supply acquisitions, as well as service contract support to Travis and various missions all over the world,” said Tech. Sgt. Derek Chaplin, 60th CONS base support flight contracting officer. “CONS is a very small squadron with a worldwide impact.”

Purchasing everything from furniture to security systems, the base support flight has a short term goal to ensure Travis gets as much end of fiscal year money as possible to provide every unit on base with the resources they need, according to Master Sgt. John Stacy, 60th CONS base support flight team lead.

“We provide on time, on cost acquisitions support for all complex commodities and supplies for Travis Air Force Base and around the globe,” said Stacy.

The goal of the base support flight is ensuring funding is spent efficiently and economically.

“In an era of sequestration and constant budget cuts, 60th CONS leads the charge in getting more with less,” said Stacy. “The team prides itself on doing everything possible to get quality products for all of our end users.”

Examples of recent accomplishments include the 2015 Department of Defense Small Business Award, completing a major land mobile radio upgrade for the communications squadron while saving $150,000, providing a critical WIFI and Internet Service Provider contract for the Operations Group and David Grant USAF Medical Center, as well as countless contracts for the Contingency Response Wing providing training, support and supplies to set up emergency landing strips in austere locations.

“Our job is to execute the requirements in the most economical way possible while ensuring our customers get exactly what they need to carry out the mission,” said Chaplin. “Everyone knows that Travis has an impact on every mission around the world in one way or another. Our office provides support, supplies and man-power to every organization on base, including the Navy.”
