2/25/2011 - TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE,Calif. -- The American Federation of Government Employees announced Feb. 5 that John Santry, Travis AFGE president, is the Air Force caucus chair for all stateside bases.

As chair, Mr. Santry will represent the labor relation needs of federal employees on approximately 50 active-duty, 20 reserve and 20 Air National Guard bases.

Mr. Santry was elected president of the local AFGE Chapter 1764 seven years ago and will serve as the AFGE caucus chair for three years.

Mr. Santry is currently responsible for labor relations of Travis including workers compensation, discrepancies within the work place and equal opportunity issues. The AFGE represent approximately 1,200 federal employees on Travis.

"We are the mediators on Travis," said Mr. Santry. "My job is to resolve any labor relations issues at the lowest possible and resolve them quickly for all parties involved."

Also Mr. Santry is responsible for informing newcomers to Travis of policies and changes to federal and local policy that affect labor relations.

"Federal employees stay at Travis because they love the mission," said Mr. Santry. "They also stay because we have a great partnership with the wing leadership, which models for a great labor relations atmosphere."

The AFGE is the largest federal employee union representing 600,000 federal and government workers nationwide and overseas. The agency provides for legal representation, legislative advocacy, technical expertise and informational services.

"Anytime my experience and information can help someone solve their problems in the workplace is the greatest reward I can receive," said Mr. Santry.
