COLONEL DAVID A. HAMMERSCHMIDT

Colonel Hammerschmidt is the 60th Maintenance Group Commander, Travis Air Force Base, California. As commander, he is responsible for the management of four aircraft maintenance squadrons and an Aerial Port Squadron. He leads 2,200+ active, civilian, and reserve personnel supporting Air Mobility Command’s largest wing, providing organizational and field-level maintenance for 18 C-5, 13 C-17, and 27 KC-10 assigned aircraft and all transient aircraft.  He supplies world class Space Required and Space Available passenger services, cargo movement and traffic management operations. He is the logistics subject matter expert on all aircraft maintenance and aerial port support issues for the air mobility wing.

 

Colonel Hammerschmidt entered basic training on 2 August 1989. After basic training he attended 56 weeks of technical school in Biloxi, Mississippi, before being assigned to Hurlburt Field Florida, as an Electronic Warfare Systems Specialist. In May of 1997 Colonel Hammerschmidt earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida State University and was commissioned through ROTC. Prior to his assignment to Travis Air Force Base, Colonel Hammerschmidt was the Division Chief of the Mobility Aircraft Division, Headquarters Air Mobility Command at Scott AFB, Ill.
