TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Travis Air Force Base first responders are working with federal and local law enforcement agencies to investigate a security incident that occurred at the Travis Air Force Base main gate yesterday.
At approximately 7 p.m. March 21, 2018, Travis AFB first responders and Fairfield emergency officials responded to an incident where a car gained unauthorized access to Travis AFB through the main gate entrance. The car crashed shortly after entering the base and became engulfed in flames. Travis AFB security forces immediately responded. Additionally, the base’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, Office of Special Investigations and other responders were on scene.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no additional fatalities or injuries. The identity of the individual has not been released at this time.

"I am extremely proud of how our first responders quickly addressed the situation to keep Travis and the surrounding area out of harm’s way. We are fortunate to have enduring relationships with federal and local law enforcement, and will continue to work hand-in-hand with them through the investigation process."
Air Force Office of Special Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Sacramento Field Office, is jointly investigating this matter. No additional information is available at this time.
The investigation is ongoing and there are no current known threats to the base or community. The main gate has reopened and all other facilities are operating as normal.
