Maintainers establish Travis recycling record

TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. --  Airmen from the 60th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron blew their opposition out of the water during last month's base-wide recycling competition, recycling more than 5,700 pounds of reusable products.

The team, known as the Dumpster Divers, raised more than $3,300 which goes toward their booster club to help fund squadron morale events and activities. The Green Avengers, from the 60th Medical Group, came in second place during the month-long campaign, recycling more than 475 pounds of products which earned their group $309.

Airman 1st Class David Fagan, 60th AMXS C-5 crew chief, organized the squadron into five teams which competed amongst each other while working toward the ultimate goal of winning the base-wide competition which ran from April 3, through May 6.

"I'm incredibly proud of the work and dedication of the members of our squadron," Fagan said. "We worked many hours while off duty to gather as much recyclable product as possible. The end result and our numbers reflect how hard each one of our members worked on this project."

The numbers produced by the Dumpster Divers set records for Travis, which will be a tough task for any organization to top in the coming years.

"What they were able to do during this competition hasn't been done since the program began 15 years ago," said Staff Sgt. Tassinda Ward, recycling program lead for Travis. "They have set the bar extremely high in both the pounds recycled and dollar amounts earned."
