In today's high operations tempo Air Force, where an Airman's expeditious motivation and efficiency must be maintained, many Airmen and Travis personnel experience the sacrifices of a time crunch.

One prominent example is when Airmen choose to exercise during their lunch hour instead of grabbing a bite to eat. For these cases, Travis now offers an alternative to completely skipping a meal or skipping a workout.

The grand opening of JP's Health Bar occurred Monday at the Travis Fitness Center to give Travis personnel a tasty way to stay fueled, hydrated and ready to train for the fight.

The health bar features a "meal replacement" smoothie or shake fortified with nutrients, supplements and an appropriate amount of calories while maintaining the flavor chosen by the customer.

"The convenience of JP's Health Bar will benefit Airmen," said Dean Fazzio, Travis Fitness Center director. "Since it's right inside the gym, the health bar is readily accessible to Airmen after a work out."

Airmen can select from basic smoothies that include muscle mass, muscle fuel, lean machine, low carb, re-fuel, energy rush, fat burner, meal replacement and immunity boosters. From there customers can add yogurt, peanut butter or choose other additives to fuel their body.

In addition to the supplements, general vitamins may be selected to be added in the smoothie or shake. Low fat and sugar free are also options.

Staff Sgt. Glenn Bernier, 21st Airlift Squadron C-17 Globemaster III loadmaster, prefers his post-workout smoothie to be the low carb peach mango.

"It's delicious," he said. "The customer service is phenomenal and the drinks are conducive to my work out because they're low carb and have protein."

After a year hiatus and successful feedback for approximately a month during the soft opening of the innovative juice bar, JP's Health Bar is now open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Payments can be made with cash or credit card.

"JP's expands beyond general beverage consumption and we look forward to the upcoming opportunities for new healthful items and smoothies," Fazzio said. "The customer chooses exactly what and how much or how little is in their product."
