Sierra Inn Dining Facility completes renovations Published Jan. 11, 2012 By Airman 1st Class Madelyn Ottem 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 60th Force Support Squadron held the grand opening of the renovated Sierra Inn Dining Facility Monday after three months of construction on Travis Air Force Base. The Sierra Inn acquired room for approximately 75 more seats to accommodate more Airmen and civilians on Travis. The structure of food station placement and location was altered for ease of access and to lessen time spent in line for customers. "This is the culmination of three months of renovation," said Brian DeCamp, Aramark general manager. "The quality and variety of food will provide a service for all on base." "It looks very organized and there are plenty of seats in the rooms," said Airman 1st Class Nhin Vong, 60th Security Forces Squadron. "There are also lots of TVs so I can watch sports while I eat lunch." Airman 1st Class Asa Rodriguez, 660th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, enjoyed a plate of rice, chicken, carrots and potatoes after the grand opening of the Sierra Inn. "The atmosphere is electric," Rodriguez said. "I feel like this is a restaurant instead of a dining facility." The Sierra Inn is one component on Travis of the Food Transformation Initiative, which is an effort to improve the quality and accessibility of meals for Airmen who utilize the meal card through the campus-style dining system. In addition to the Sierra Inn, Airmen on the meal card have the capability to use their meal cards at the Delta Breeze Club, Travis Bowl, Cypress Lakes Golf Course, the Westwind Inn and the Knucklebuster Café. After Col. Dwight Sones, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander, symbolically cut the ribbon and officially opened the rejuvenated dining facility, a food show was held inside the facility displaying a variety of sample foods that are available at the Sierra Inn and some that have the possibility of becoming available depending on feedback.
