Approximately 65 Travis Airmen and civilians were honored Wednesday at the Delta Breeze Club for their environmental efforts during the Solano Commuter Challenge banquet.

The Airmen and civilians performed exceptionally during the challenge by using alternative methods of transportation to and from work.

Airman Mathew Bittle, 660th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, chose to bike to work daily, while Airman 1st Class Asa Rodriguez and Airman 1st Class Travis Coulson commuted.

"I was inspired to participate in the challenge because of all the smog I've seen in San Francisco," Bittle said. "It was also motivation for me to start biking again."

According to Sorel Klein, Solano Napa Commuter Information assistant program manager, Travis improved participation and performance by 450 percent compared to the 2010 results.

"It's amazing that word has gotten out in such a big way," Bittle said. "It really shows our Travis teamwork."

Bradley Thomas, Airman & Family Readiness Center community readiness consultant, was in charge of Travis representation for the challenge.

"Travis had great leadership support with the whole effort," he said. "It was a fantastic team effort."

Airman 1st Class Matthew Gould, 860th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, was awarded with the most outstanding commuter.

The next Solano Commuter Challenge is scheduled to occur August 2012.
