Children on Travis learn importance of nutrition Published Sept. 1, 2011 By Airman Madelyn Ottem 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Lisa Webster, Health and Wellness Center base community dietitian, worked with HAWC team members Deborah Baker, registered nurse, and Julie Stout, base fitness program manager, to provide a special nutrition event Aug. 24 for kids at Child Day Care Center No. 3. The children and teachers learned the benefits of healthy eating from activities such as story time with Capt. Erin Skinner, 60th Aerospace Medicine Squadron physiologist, coloring pages and creating their own custom-made nutritious watermelon banana split. Webster works closely with the staff at Rohrer Brothers Produce Company, the commissary's produce vendor, to make these events possible. "We have a dedication to improving the consumption of fruits and vegetables," Webster said. "We coordinate these events to enhance the knowledge of everyone about the importance of a healthy diet." The children were given an activity book on nutrition to take home and share with their parents that encourages lifelong healthy eating habits. "It is my desire to reach all segments of the base community so this was our first children's event with many more to come," Webster said. Webster also will be the point of contact for the Colorful Choices Wellness Challenge for Team Travis scheduled to begin Sept. 15.
