During a recent Air Force-level accreditation evaluation, the Westwind Inn earned the highest marks of any base in Air Mobility Command.

Using a 486-line item lodging standards checklist, the Westwind Inn scored a 95.7 percent during its evaluation Feb. 17 through 19.- a score of worthy recognition.

It should be noted, this evaluation encompassed the entire lodging program. This requires inspectors from the Air Force Services Agency in San Antonio to rate everything from initial guest contact at the front desk to room cleanliness and amenities, accounting, maintenance programs, logistics management, training, quality assurance and much more.

"We have an outstanding staff where everyone genuinely cares about what they do," said Steve Ellison, Westwind Inn general manager. "When it comes to taking care of our guests, every one of our lodging team members epitomizes the Air Force core values of integrity, service and excellence. We take great pride in our facilities but it's the staff that makes the difference."

The next hurdle for lodging is to earn the AMC Innkeeper nomination and go on to compete against all the other MAJCOM large-base innkeeper nominees at Air Force level. Any lodging operation with more than 285 guestrooms fits into the large-base category.

The Westwind Inn has 560 guestrooms and is the eighth largest lodging operation out of 95 properties Air Force-wide. The Innkeeper competition is tentatively scheduled for June with results coming in September. The Innkeeper Award is formally presented in New York City in November at the annual Air Force Inns Conference and in conjunction with the International Hotel and Restaurant Show.
