Schools are back in session, summer is a memory, and local blood drives continue in full swing this October. Patients who are missing delightful autumn changes and Halloween displays while they battle cancer, injuries, burns, and blood disorders are counting on blood donors.

Every community member can contribute to a safe and plentiful blood supply by donating blood, or if unable to donate, can volunteer, educate and/or encourage others who are able.

Team Travis members will get their opportunity to be a donor during a blood drive Oct. 6 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at two locations on base: the Bloodmobile located in the Main BX parking lot, or the Radiology waiting area on the second floor of David Grant USAF Medical Center.

Participants need to bring photo identification and should eat and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating.  Walk-ins are welcome and all participants will receive a free T-shiirt.

Donating blood is safe, easy and takes about an hour. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be at least 17 years old (16 with a signed BloodSource parental consent form  located at www.bloodsource.org/HowYouCanHelp/HighSchoolProgram), and be generally healthy. There is no upper age limit for blood donations.

Please make blood donation a regular part of your seasonal plans because life-saving blood is needed in all seasons - Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. Yes, you do save lives.
