Travis Airmen are going to see a change to their leave and earnings statement effective January 2009.

Airmen will not be receiving the CONUS COLA supplement on their paychecks which will result in a slight decrease in pay depending on the members' rank.

The intent of the CONUS COLA is to provide military members whose non-housing cost of living is significantly higher than that of the U.S. national average. Travis Airmen had received this allowance for multiple years.

"The loss of the Cola will be minimal for Airmen as they will see a decrease in pay only between $18 (E-1) and $55 (O-6) per bi-weekly paycheck," said Lt. Col. Lasheeco Graham, 60th Comptroller Squadron commander.

According to 2nd Lt. Adam Bandy, 60th Comptroller Squadron deputy financial services officer, The Per Diem Allowance and Travel Committee is the organization who compiles these statistics. "They determined that CONUS COLA is no longer necessary to Travis effective on your January 15, 2009 paychecks," he said.

The Committee determines which locations qualify for CONUS COLA using data assembled from several sources. These sources include local market price data, location and availability of commissaries and exchanges, average savings information generated by the commissaries and exchanges and CONUS-wide surveys, taken roughly every three years. On previous Leave and Earnings Statements COLA received is listed under Basic Allownace for Housing in the Entitlements block.
