In continuing to seek out new ways to better serve and help Travis Airmen with their educational goals, the Travis Education Center recently opened their new on-base National Testing Center.

The center, established with University of Maryland College, is free to military members. It provides 34 different college-level examination programs and 36 Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support Standardized Subject Tests.

"The advantage to an on-base National Testing Center is the fact that more CLEP exams are available to our members. Previously there were only 51 exams available and now there are 70 different exams available," said Jose Dorta, base education center director.

In addition, members now no longer have to wait four to eight weeks for paper test results; the results are immediate as soon as they complete the test.

"As soon as the member completes the test, they'll know if they passed or failed," Mr. Dorta said. "This allows the member to immediately decide if they are required to take or not take a class based on their test results."

The establishment of the testing center took almost a year and is an example of the tremendous effort of the Travis Education Center and UMUC to provide Team Travis with the best educational opportunities possible.

The center offers testing Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m. Members who do not have appointments may use the center on a walk-in basis from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
