TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- For six weeks now, military members and their families haven’t had to go downtown to experience the services and atmosphere of a petite day spa.
From several types of massages to herbal facials to reflexology, the Escape Petite Spa, located in the Westwind Inn, can relieve the aches and pains caused by the stresses of living a military lifestyle.
Open to anyone with access to Travis, the spa is the first of its kind located in Air Force military lodging.
“It’s a way to get away without having to go away,” said Mr. Glen Fraticelli, owner of Escape Petite Spa. “We’ve created a ‘spa-like’ environment where people can escape reality for awhile.”
Mr. Fraticelli came up with the idea to provide spa services on base from his own experiences with temporary duties.
“I travel a lot [as a Reservist],” said Mr. Fraticelli. “I am always searching for a place to get a massage and I always had to either go downtown or to the fitness center.”
The spa services are available to anyone from those waiting for space-available flights to employees and family members at Travis.
“Anyone who wears a [uniform] or supports someone who does can use this spa,” said Mr. Fraticelli.
The initial reactions to the facility and services have been positive.
“Those that have used the spa really appreciate the environment we have set up,” said Ms. Deanna Mott, certified massage therapist. “We have received only positive reactions.”
Ms. Mott is currently handling all of the massage therapy and spa services. Compared to an average of $65 a person which pays for an hour-long massage downtown, it costs $47 at the Escape spa. A half hour and one and a half hour is $30 and $70 respectively.
Types of massages include Swedish, hot stone, deep tissue, pregnancy and a whole gamut of sports massages.
In addition to those, the spa offers facial massage and acupressure, herbal wraps, salt scrubs, reflexology and foot soaks. Expansion to an esthetician to do facials and waxing is also in the works.
