Cypress Lakes Golf Club is a volunteer membership arm of the Cypress Lakes Golf Course and was formed more than two years ago. Their members consist of adults and young people with a passion for the game. The great news for Travis is the club has made a commitment to promote enthusiasm for Cypress Lakes Golf Course.

The goals of the club are to stimulate a wide interest in golf, foster a close-bond fraternity to promote the best interests of the game, encourage conformance to the United States Golf Association Rules of Golf and provide an authoritative body to govern and conduct club competitions at various courses.

Hosting more than 15 different tournaments each year, the club encourages golfers of all abilities to come out and enjoy the game, camaraderie and competition.

"We also support Toys for Tots with our December tournament," said Richard Buesgen, Cypress Lakes Golf Club president. "In addition, we assist lower income families on base with turkeys for November's Turkey Shoot.

Currently, the club is exploring ways to encourage younger Airmen and dependents to take an increased interest in the game. Travis' 60th Force Support Squadron is excited to team with the club to meet these objectives.

In an effort to make Cypress Lakes a showplace for golf in Northern California, the club has networked with management to assist with maintenance and improvement projects on the course. The club volunteers participate each month with raking, picking up, washing ponds and clipping plants and trees.

"Our goal is to assist the golf course maintenance staff with any task that does not require the use of machinery but which can take the staff a long time to do," Buesgen said.

The maintenance staff appreciates their assistance and together they have helped to ensure the course continues to have beautiful greens, well-groomed fairways and well-maintained ponds.

Recently, the club initiated a new feature on its website called live scoring. This feature allows anyone to log onto the website and view the most current tournament information on players.

"We also display the real time information on a flat screen television at Cypress Lakes Golf Course during tournaments," Buesgen said.

It's easy to see the many benefits that the club brings to Travis' golf course. Having a president that is not only enthusiastic about golf, but committed to Cypress Lakes is a huge benefit to the course and its customers.

"The game of golf gives you the opportunity to test yourself, both mentally and physically," Buesgen said. "Whenever you play, you find out something more about the game and yourself. We are committed to ensuring that players at Cypress Lakes Golf Course have the possibility of doing both."
