The Jungle, a covered outdoor facility behind the Travis Fitness Center, held a grand opening ceremony Sept. 8 at Travis Air Force Base, California.

The 7,200 square-foot open-air facility has free-weights, kettle bells, rack systems, medicine balls and other equipment used to participate in High Intensity Training programs. The hours of operation for the Jungle are 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

"The same members who can access the fitness center can access The Jungle as long as they are age 16 or older," said Tech Sgt. Keith Bethany, 60th Force Support Squadron NCO in charge fitness assessment. "I would like to see patrons assist with anyone misusing any equipment so that we can maintain the equipment to its lifespan and not have to replace any earlier than needed."

Another new edition to the fitness center is the adjustment to the hours of operation from regular to 24 hours a day for registered patrons. Starting Monday, regular hours will be 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

During the unmanned after hours, patrons will be granted access after registering with a common access card or obtaining an access card. To register, fill out the statement of understanding, located on the FSS website, and present it at the fitness center during regular hours of operation. The registration process will take approximately five to 10 minutes and is mandatory for access afterhours.
