The 2014 Travis Combined Federal Campaign came to a close at Travis Air Force Base, California, Nov. 14, as last minute donations helped push the installation across the $200,000 mark.

Since the inaugural Travis CFC kick-off on Oct. 3, flights, squadrons and groups from across the base worked diligently toward reaching the installation's goal of raising $250,000 in donations. While this year's numbers fell just shy of the quarter of a million dollar mark, Travis officials stated that the opportunity to give back to the local community far outweighs any dollar sign figure.

"I believe we are all created to help others and give back," said Capt. Veronica Perry, 60th Inpatient Operation Squadron and project officer for this year's campaign. "This campaign reminds us of that. I believe we should do something, even if it's donating just $1 or donating your time to help someone in need.

"Every little bit helps. We are so blessed, not just as a base community but as a country. I believe it's our duty to sew in the lives of others and CFC allows us to do that. If not us, then who?"

With a final tally resting at $204,000 on Wednesday afternoon, Perry credited much of Travis' success throughout the last six weeks to her team of fundraisers and keyworkers.

"The biggest success, in my opinion, was how well our team worked together," she said. "Everyone did their part to make the campaign a success. Specifically, I think our CFC kick-off event set the tone for the entire campaign."

This year's kick-off event played host to nearly 300 attendees and raised more than $1,600. More importantly, it provided the opportunity for over a dozen charities to meet with service members and civilians at Travis to showcase firsthand the effects of where their donation funds are going.

"We can't afford to sit back and not support our community," Perry said. "I believe the Travis family feels the same way judging by the generous amount of donations we received from them.  Their financial donations speak volumes and send a message to our community that we care about them. I strongly believe that we will never change the world by standing still."

Although though the campaign on Travis Air Force Base has ended, donations can still be made until Dec. 31 via myPay or online at www.norcalcfc.org.
