The Airman and Family Readiness Center held their quarterly Education and Career Fair at the Delta Breeze Club May 23, hosting nearly 100 employment and education vendors seeking to hire and assist transitioning service members and military spouses.

More than 110 people attended the fair with a handful of individuals being hired on the spot.

"Agencies want to hire veterans, transitioning service members and spouses to their companies for their work ethic, reliability and career field knowledge that they bring from their experience in the military," said Maria McIntosh, AFRC employment program manager.

McIntosh said career fairs bring the employers to the member, providing an opportunity for individuals to network and ask questions from a wide spectrum of different agencies.

"Take the opportunity to find out the necessary steps, education and skill requirements that employers are looking for in a prospective hire," she said. "Members should be educated on future career options available to them.

She also provided a few tips for those attending future career fairs.

"Dress for success," she said. "Know that the companies want to hire you and educate you. Come prepared with a resume and questions."

In addition to hosting the career fair, the Airman and Family Readiness Center also offers several classes and workshops, assisting service members transitioning from the military or looking for alternative employment opportunities.

Employment services provided by the AFRC include one-on-one career counseling, federal employment assistance, career planning, networking and interview techniques classes, as well as a Prepare for the Fair workshop held a week prior to each career fair.

Take advantage of the opportunity to network and get information on the career fields you would consider transitioning to in the future, McIntosh said. The employers love to interact with our military members, spouses and kids to assist with future career decisions.

The next Travis Career Fair is scheduled for Aug. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Delta Breeze Club. For more information, call the AFRC at 707-424-2486.
