Lets make 2008 a memorable year Published Jan. 18, 2008 By Col. GI Tuck 60th Air Mobility Wing vice commander TRAVIS AFB, Calif. -- The 60th Air Mobility Wing had a lot to be proud of in 2007. Travis was named the "Best of the Best," taking home 17 RODEO trophies this past summer and clinched an "Outstanding" rating for our Operational Readiness Inspection. Our three wings showcased an incredible display of teamwork, in partnership with our tenant organizations and community leaders, during the CINC's Installation Excellence Award visit! You can see Team Travis' efforts did not go unnoticed across Air Mobility Command and our Air Force. We're proud to be a part of a collaborative team that gives their all to ensure Travis continues to be "America's First Choice." On the horizon, there are new opportunities for our 'Airmen' to shine. We welcome Col. Mike Fernandez, deputy chief Aircrew Stan/Eval Division and the Air Mobility Command Aircrew Standardization and Evaluation Team! They will be on deck taking a very close look at the 349th and 60th Operations Group operations. Welcome to Travis! We also have a Unit Compliance Inspection, Safety Program Evaluation, Logistics Standardization Evaluation Program Evaluation and an Emergency Management Exercise which more than 160 inspectors will evaluate. My thanks go out to Maj. Tim Voss, UCI/EMX Prep team leader and Dan Johnson, 60th Air Mobility Wing Plans, and all the exercise evaluators. There is a lot of work leading up to an inspection of this magnitude and with their efforts I know we'll be ready! This past Wednesday, Travis hosted GMH, the new military housing privatization manager, to a town hall meeting. They manage privatized housing at 40 other military installations and are very eager to work with Travis. Kudos to Bob Vunesky from our Civil Engineering Squadron and Mark Dupree and the Military Housing Office for being available to answer your questions. We look forward to GMH providing quality homes for our Airmen. We also had the pleasure of hosting many of our community leaders and friends Thursday evening. The New Year's Reception allowed us to celebrate events of 2007 and look forward to the many great things to come this New Year. We're very thankful for the strong relationship we enjoy with our community leaders and supporters. This reception was our opportunity to give them a small taste of our appreciation and we look forward to working together this year. We are also proud to announce we'll have the privilege of hosting the USAF Thunderbirds and the U.S. Army Golden Knights at this year's air show Aug. 30 to 31. We are excited to provide a unique opportunity for the community and our base as we showcase our Air Force - the most dominant air power in the world. It's going to be a busy year. We worked hard last year and accomplished many great things as a team. Let's take care of each other and make 2008 memorable!
