Team Travis, you're simply the best!

Yes, you've heard me say it a hundred times or more; nevertheless, it's true! In fact, our installation has been consistently recognized as one of Air Mobility Command's best.

From Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, we have the privilege of competing against Dover and Charleston Air Force Bases to earn the nomination as AMC's representative to the Air Force for the Commander in Chief's Installation Excellence Award. Col. Nicholas Desport and his inspection team are scheduled to arrive Oct. 30.

Already proven winners, our Airmen across the Travis enterprise exemplify our core values and perform at incredible heights supporting the chief of staff of the Air Force's top three priorities: winning the war against terror, taking care of our Airmen and their families, and recapitalizing and modernizing the force. We have the distinct honor of being the only base within AMC that has three different major weapon systems assigned: the C-5 Galaxy (Strategic Airlift), C-17 Globemaster III (Strat/Tactical Airlift) and KC-10 Extender (Air Refueling).

Every single day our Airmen are engaged in global operations, fighting the Global War on Terror, defending our homeland, providing strategic deterrence and giving our nation unparalleled Global Vigilance, Reach and Power.

Our Airmen are the best at what they do and welcome opportunities to showcase their talents. Opportunities such as the Rodeo, where we swept the competition winning 17 major trophies, including being recognized as the best overall. Team Travis then followed-up with earning "Excellent" and "Outstanding" ratings during the 615th Contingency Response Wing and 60th Air Mobility Wing Operational Readiness Inspections, respectively.

We are the benchmark for our motto "One Fight, One Team, No Boundaries," and have transcended Travis into a first class installation and a remarkable place for our Airmen and their families to live, work and play.

Team Travis, you embody the phrase, "Mission First, People Always" by unselfishly devoting time to things like Teddy Watch, deployed spouses' dinners, Airmen's Attic and numerous other services around base.

Last Friday, I asked our newcomers to tell me their first impression of Travis. Overwhelmingly, their response was, "Wow!"

I am confident that Col. Nicholas Desport and his team will depart Travis saying, "Wow, this is a massive and beautiful installation, but it's the outstanding Airmen who launch Travis above the rest!"

Our C-17s parked on the ramp are a sterling example of recapitalizing the fleet, and our efforts in demolishing nearly 700 antiquated houses is a great illustration of how we are moving forward to modernize our infrastructure. Yes, Team Travis is a proud bunch of Airmen because our names are displayed on the mailboxes of Travis. We take great pride in knowing when people pass through Travis they will say, "Wow! It's evident the men and women at Travis take great pride in their installation!"

Colonel Desport and company, welcome to Travis, home of "America's First Choice." We have no doubt you will quickly discover why we're referred to as "America's First Choice" and declare us AMC's winner, propelling Travis forward to compete for the Commander in Chief's Installation Excellence Award. We hope you and your team enjoy your visit.

Team Travis have a great weekend, be safe, make responsible choices and I will see you around campus!
