As we close out the Thanksgiving season and begin the 24-day marathon of decorating, attending multiple holiday parties and Christmas shopping, we'll be faced with temptations from time to time. There will be opportunities to make smart choices, and I need each of you to be particularly aware during activities involving drinking alcoholic beverages, purchasing gifts for your loved ones and enjoying the fine spread of traditional foods and treats this time of year brings out in mass quantities.

Team Travis members made smart choices regarding drinking and driving in November, as we had zero, I repeat, zero, DUIs as of the 29th. Taking care of your Wingman and making responsible choices enables us to get the most out of life without placing anyone's life or career in jeopardy. Thank you all for your efforts last month...let's keep this attitude of caring about others and ourselves moving forward!

The holiday season presents time for family and fun, but often that "fun" is translated into unhealthy living opportunities. From extravagant holiday dinners to holiday shopping and holiday parties it sometimes seems the holiday season is a chance to eat, drink and spend beyond what we can afford and then make New Year's resolutions to quit drinking, lose 25 pounds and pay off credit card debt!

Think about your plan for next year now and guide your personal actions accordingly.
We've proven last month that we can enjoy a major holiday and not get behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking. It's a fact that there will be many holiday parties, and I hope to see many of you out enjoying your unit's gathering. Please make a smart plan and stick to it! If you have a drink, ensure you give the keys to a designated driver who has not had a drink.

Watch out for your Wingman.

If you are at a party and notice someone leaving after they have been drinking, offer them a safe ride home. If you are planning a holiday party, arrange to have a couple designated drivers present to ensure everyone gets home safe. Also, please keep 0-0-1-3 in the forefront of your mind as you engage in social activities. Together, we can make this a safe holiday season for all. If you ever find yourself in a predicament where you need a ride, please call the Airmen Against Drunk Driving at 424-0013, or call your unit leadership, or call me.

Responsible choices don't stop there. Be smart when dining on the smorgasbord of holiday treats, turkey dinners, pumpkin pie and all of the other great food choices. Not many can resist these, so just pay yourself back by limiting your portions and finding time to hit the gym. Even with the holidays, we must always stay 'Fit to Fight.' Many times our routines are interrupted during the holiday season due to hosting family, taking trips and attending social functions. By taking a couple minutes to plan your day, you can find time for you to maintain your fitness goals throughout the holiday season.

This holiday season is a time of celebration and cheer for you and your family. Please make responsible choices whether you are at work or at play.

BE PROUD! BE SAFE!
