Exciting things in store for Travis Published April 20, 2006 By Col. Lyn Sherlock 60th AMW commander TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Sunshine and spring are just around the corner, similar to the many exciting events occurring in the coming months. Change of Command Two weeks ago I passed the two-year point as commander of the 60th Air Mobility Wing. That means it is time for another great opportunity to serve elsewhere in our Air Force. Col. Steven Arquiette, 62nd Airlift Wing vice commander at McChord Air Force Base, Wash., will take my place at a change-of- command ceremony May 8. It has been a wonderful experience serving with all of you, and I am sure Travis will be in good hands with the Arquiette family. 615th CRW anniversary I want to congratulate the 615th Contingency Response Wing as they celebrate their one-year anniversary. Since they stood up April 11, 2005, they have been very busy writing doctrine, participating in exercises and supporting several real world contingencies. The capabilities they bring to the Air Force are incredible and I am sure they will continue to be more important as they fully develop. Air Force Assistance Fund The Air Force Assistance Fund campaign is on going. We have had a great start with the kick-off chili contest and today’s golf tournament. This year’s base goal is just over $107,000 and can directly or indirectly support yours or your wingman’s time of need. I encourage everyone to donate and help out their Air Force comrades. Find your representative for details. Sexual Assault Awareness Month April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, Mr. Kirk Whitman, and his team has been running several educational programs, including self defense classes, dorm awareness briefings and “Refuse to be a Victim” training. I encourage everyone, to attend these classes and be proactive in preventing sexual assault. My hat’s off to Mr. Whitman and his team. Thank you! Holocaust Days of Remembrance The Days of Remembrance in honor of the victims of the Jewish Holocaust is April 23 through April 27. Lunch has been arranged with some people who were victims of or affected by the Holocaust and showings of “Life is Beautiful” are planned during the week. Quarterly awards Congratulations to everyone selected to represent their group at the 60th Air Mobility Wing and 615th Contingency Response Wing’s Quarterly Awards pep rally. You have all gone above and beyond in the first quarter of 2006. Thank you for your dedication and good luck at the wing competitions. Everyone is encouraged to come to the base theater April 28 at 10:30 a.m. to support their group nominees. As always, the Travis Team is meeting and exceeding every challenge we have faced. This summer will be busy as we prepare for the C-17 arrival, change of commands and our support for the Global War on Terrorism. Please keep up the great work and take care of yourself and your family.
