It is great to be back leading the Travis Team!

Since my return a couple weeks ago, we have already received lots of exciting news!

AMC’s 12 Outstanding Airmen

I am proud to announce that one of our own first sergeants is a finalist to compete for one of Air Mobility Command’s four Outstanding Airmen of the year 2005.

My hat’s off to Master Sgt. Maria Kraft, 60th Logistics Readiness Squadron. If selected, she will compete at the Air Force level for one of the 12 Outstanding Airmen of the Year!

STEP promotions

Along the same line, last week Chief Johnson and I rewarded six Airmen for a job well done with Stripes for Exceptional Performance as we promoted six staff sergeants to technical sergeants on the spot. Congratulations to everyone, you deserved it!

Hennessy Award

Another exciting event was the 60th Services Squadron winning the Air Force Hennessy Award for the best single-facility food service program. The squadron went through several inspections before being named the winners. Congratulations for an outstanding job! This award shows just how much they care about providing our Airmen the best meals possible!

21st Airlift Squadron transition

Monday was a bittersweet day for Travis as the 21st Airlift Squadron transitioned from a C-5 Galaxy to a C-17 Globemaster III squadron.

The 21st AS has been flying the C-5 since 1993 supporting contingencies throughout the world ever since.

With the July arrival of the first C-17 to Travis, the base will provide even more capabilities as “America’s First Choice in Rapid Global Mobility.”

HARE

I was impressed by everyone’s hard work and dedication in last week’s exercise. We have not exercised this type of emergency in a long time and everyone performed wonderfully!

Please take the lessons you learned during the exercise and implement them but most importantly, keep safety at the forefront of you mind at all times!

Thank you to 60th Air Mobility Wing Plans and the Exercise Evaluation Team for planning an excellent exercise and providing your constructive feedback!

Purple Heart

A couple of weeks ago, the Travis Team had the opportunity to participate in a historical Purple Heart ceremony.

Mr. Leo Bach, a World War II prisoner of war, was awarded his Purple Heart along with five other medals for his brave actions more than 60 years ago.

I would like to personally thank Capt. Allison Hahn and the rest of the people who helped plan this event for one of our veterans.

On that same note, I would like to thank Mr. Bach for his continued support to Travis. Mr. Bach is scheduled to tell his POW story during the Holocaust Days of Remembrance luncheon April 25.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is also Sexual Assault Awareness Month. We have made some major progress over the couple of years since the program began. This month is aimed at ensuring everyone knows their options. You are not alone!

If you are a victim of sexual assault, please seek help from the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, Mr. Kirk Whitman at 424-SARC (7272).

As always, I am impressed by the hard work and dedication every member of the Travis Team puts forth day in and day out.

Thank you and keep up the great work!
