Working with others inspires leaders Published March 10, 2006 By Col. Timothy Grosz and Chief Master Sgt. Kelvin Hales 615th Contingency Response Wing commander and command chief TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The opportunity to serve and work each day with some of the brightest, most capable people our country has to offer inspires us to lead. We have been fortunate to work for and with some great Americans, men and women [officers, enlisted and civilians] who place service before self each and every day of their lives. Their daily commitment has made our Air Force a better place and helped shape our focus through the years. These Airmen always displayed a genuine concern for the troops and helped us realize that “making a difference” was the best example of leadership we could ever emulate. Leading one of the Air Force’s newest wings provides the unique chance to see history in the making and leading a cutting-edge organization coming to the forefront of contingency operations. Seeing excitement in the eyes of our mobility warriors — commanders and troops alike — makes this a very special time to lead. We put the uniform on each day knowing challenges will come, but we are not alone, as thousands of Air Force teammates stand with us — both past and present. That is what inspires us to lead.
