Airmen success inspires chief Published March 10, 2006 By Chief Master Sgt. Brye McMillon 60th AMW command chief TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Leadership is the most exciting and beneficial thing that has occurred in my military life. As a leader I am motivated by a myriad of things. The first of which is the idea I learned from my parents that you can do anything you place your mind to. I am not bound by the rules that most prescribe to which indicates external forces, socioeconomic status and friends determine how far you can go. This allows me to see beyond established limits and see success in every situation. When an Airman comes in with a no-win situation, I get excited because I believe where others falter because they refuse to push the envelop, I will succeed. The success of others also drives me as a leader. As a chief there are no awards, no recognition programs, except the sight of seeing those around you succeed. The fuel that keeps my leadership fire burning is seeing the Airman who has been told he can’t, does; when the NCO who was told he couldn’t, did. I am motivated to provide a fair opportunity for every Airman to become all they can be. This is a full-time job and requires active involvement every day. I am who I am because someone gave me an opportunity, and that is what I will do for every Airman I come in contact with. Finally, to be of any useful assistance to Airmen I must always bring my “A” game. It is not easy to always be on point; as such I am continually motivated to maintain the highest level of professionalism, appearance and fitness possible. Why, because I support “A” game troops who deserve an “A” game leader. In the game of leadership, failure is not an option! This should be a motivator for all of us!
