Click2Go can save time, money

With today's hustle and bustle atmosphere, it may be hard to get anything done after work. Between picking up the kids from school or trying to get dinner on the table, sometimes just having to go to the store to get groceries may seem like a daunting task.

For me, after picking up my daughter after work, the last thing I want to do is drag a cranky baby throughout a store.

Recently, some stores have started programs where you can order items online and pick them up at your convenience.

The commissary here started such a program in November of last year called CLICK2GO. At this time it is a trial program. For now, it is free to use for all Travis Commissary users. The CLICK2GO program is quick, simple and easy to use.

The night before, I go through and decide what I need to pick up for groceries for the next day and visit the Defense Commissary Agency website. I am able to go through different categories online, just like being at the store, or search for items that I need. After selecting my items, I just check out and select a date and time for pick up. Orders do need to be in at least four hours prior to pick up and orders can only be picked up Wednesday through Friday during normal duty hours.

On the day of pick up, all I have to do is drive up and wait while they load my car and swipe my card to pay - they only take major credit cards. I don't even have to get out of the car and drag my baby into the store. Items picked are kept in a temperature-appropriate holding area until I can pick them up.

One of the best benefits I get from it is how I don't end up buying unneeded items which usually happens while walking throughout the store. It keeps the extra costs down so my family is only getting what we need in the first place. No extra junk food.

Sometimes, however, if the commissary is low on stock, they cannot fulfill some items on your list. You do have the option to let them substitute items if you choose though.

One of the hardest things about it is items can sometimes be misleading. One of the times I used CLICK2GO I selected one banana for my cart. I thought I was buying one bunch of bananas. Instead I literally got one banana.

So while there may be some kinks for the commissary to work out, like the card machine not wanting to work or only getting one banana, don't let that stop you from trying out a great new program at the commissary that can save you both time and money while it's still free.
