Did you know that Travis has fully implemented the position of Community Support Coordinator as of Feb. 12.

The CSC position was created as a provision of the Air Force follow on response to the Fort Hood, Texas incident which occurred Nov. 5, 2009. This function is a full-time, installation-level position that oversees and integrates community, family, individual support and resiliency programs.

The CSC reports to the wing and vice wing commander and provides commanders with a multi-discipline capability that integrates the efforts of individual prevention and response programs.

Duties of the CSC:

· Community Action Information Board Executive Director

· Integrated Delivery System Chair

· Installation Resilience Program Manager

· Caring for People Forum Coordinator

There are several community concerns that the CSC focuses on, but the main issues are suicide prevention and awareness, sexual assault, alcohol and substance abuse, and domestic violence. In order to better address these and other concerns, the Air Force developed the Comprehensive Airman Fitness program.

The CAF leverages four pillars of fitness to help build resilience. These four pillars of fitness are: mental, physical, social and spiritual.

· Mental - Optimism, introspection and creative problem solving to overcome obstacles and maintain positive emotions and behaviors.

· Physical - Endurance, mobility, strength and flexibility enhanced through exercise, nutrition, energy management and restoration to excel in all tasks in any environment.

· Social - Creating and sustaining meaningful work, friend, family and community relationships which cultivate cohesion and support.

· Spiritual - Set of beliefs, principles, or values that sustain an individual's sense of well-being and purpose.

Two of the larger and most recognized efforts of the CAF at Travis are the Master Resiliency Training Course and Leadership Pathways. The MRTC is an eight hour long course that focuses on specific core competencies that lead to the increase of individual resilience. This course is open to the entire wing and a mandatory part of First Term Airman Center course.
