Air Force jobs anything but routine

I step off the crew bus to fly another local. It's a straight forward plan to takeoff, head to the air refueling track, practice contacts and fly back to the Travis pattern for some night transition, assault landings and ground operations. I have done this before, in fact, many times and approach this set of tasks with an underlying air of complacency. Danger.

Taking an aircraft safely from my parking spot to a de-conflicted point in space at a pre-coordinated time, touching another jet at 25,000 feet and 285 knots and returning home to land on centerline and in the zone is anything but routine. In fact, it's incredibly complex yet we safely execute these skill sets and others just like it across the Travis total force on a daily basis. Insert your own line of expertise into this illustration and this is what we do, in outstanding fashion.

Our business of mobility air power can be an unforgiving one, but the same holds true for the daily decisions we make. There are consequences for actions; so we have to be on our game at all times having a focus that extends beyond the reach of the short-term and ourselves. When life's lens is out of focus, which inevitably happens, a wingman is there to provide accountability.

In this 24-7 team sport, every member counts. Keep tackling the complex, make it look routine and serve our nation with pride. Take your individual responsibilities seriously, contribute with excellence, and make every sortie count.
