Wingman Day to focus on physical pillar Published May 10, 2013 By Senior Airman Bryan Swink 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Travis Airmen will set aside their daily tasks and participate in fellowship and physical activities during Wingman Day, May 16. This quarterly event places emphasis on what it means to be a wingman for one another and to build camaraderie among Airmen. The focus of this day is on the physical pillar of the Comprehensive Airmen Fitness program. "Wingman day truly is about watching out for the ones around you," said Master Sgt. Scott Moore, Wingman Day organizer assigned to the 9th Air Refueling Squadron. "We are using team-related fitness events to foster teamwork while having fun at the same time." The day will start with a 5K Armed Forces Run, which run will feature 10-member teams with all members connected by a rope for the duration of the run. "This helps emphasize the importance of working together," Moore said. "Everyone must start together and finish together." The race will begin at 8 a.m., with registration starting at 7:30 a.m. Individual runners are also welcome to participate. Other fitness-related activities will be held across Travis for units to participate in Wingman Day. "From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., we will have an array of activities which include softball, volleyball, dodge ball, soccer and Ultimate Frisbee," said Moore. "Outdoor Recreation's rock-wall and the Combat Medic Course at David Grant USAF Medical Center will be available as well." Contact your squadron's Wingman Day point of contact to sign up for any of the activities or contact Master Sgt. Moore at 424-7875.
