Single Airmen Initiative Published Oct. 30, 2012 By Sean Podrecca Outdoor Recreation assistant director TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Single Airmen you are in luck. There have several programs throughout the Force Support Squadron that are offering free events to single Airmen between the ages of 18 to 24. No one will be excluded from any of these events; however, the free opportunities only apply to this targeted group. The "Single Airmen Initiative" is an agency level initiative that we feel passionate about being involved with. We want to include airmen that currently utilize the FSS facilities and invite new ones to check out what our squadron has to offer. The best benefit is we plan to do it all for free. Each entity in FSS is offering opportunities unique to their programs including Travis Bowl, Travis Aero Club, Cypress Lakes Golf Course, Travis Marina, Outdoor Recreation, Paintball, Arts and Crafts and Auto Hobby. We have a variety of unique activities within ODR. Last year we introduced "Phase I" of the "Single Airman Initiative" and provided many opportunities; however, Paintball and Surfing received the best feedback and participants. Now, during "Phase II", we have included Paintball and Surfing again but we have now added other opportunities such as mountain biking, skiing, fly fishing and sea kayaking. Funded in full by the Air Force, the above opportunities include all equipment, trip fees and instructors. This program is designed to gather people of similar interests together and encourage quality of life events. We work closely within our FSS entities to provide all customers opportunities at a great cost that you cannot beat: free. We continue to broaden the awareness of our programs through the FSS marketing department, our adventure guide and on our website. For more information, please go to www.travisfss.com and find Outdoor Recreation. You can also visit each facility to sign-up. Remember space is limited so take advantage of this great opportunity soon!
