Suspension training equips PTLs, helps Airmen Published July 25, 2012 By Staff Sgt. Timothy Boyer 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Travis physical training leaders practice exercises using the suspension training July 18 at the fitness center in a TRX certification course. "The workout leverages gravity and bodyweight to enable exercises that will help Airmen reach their fitness goals," said Dean Fazzio, Travis Fitness Center director. "In conducting these trainings and certifying our PTLs to use the suspension training program, we are adding something to their tool bag that they can use to help their Airmen stay fit to fight." The program works off three main principles: vector resistance, pendulum and stability, Fazzio said. "These three principles have a lot to do with positioning to change the resistance of the exercise," he said. "This program is good for all people because it can be tailored to an individual's strength by simply changing their position." Another benefit of PTLs learning the program is that they can pass it on to their Airmen, who can use it while deployed to almost anywhere. "The equipment involved is incredibly portable," Fazzio said. "So if someone found that they like the program and they got the equipment, they could bring it with them and use it to keep in top shape." Fazzio said they are currently planning another training at which more PTLs will become certified on the equipment and will be able to train others on it. "This is really a win," he said. "The more variety we can provide at the fitness center the better. We are here to serve Airmen, and this is just one more way we can do that."
