60th Maintenance Group greets new commander Published July 11, 2012 By Staff Sgt. Timothy Boyer 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 60th Maintenance Group got a new commander Tuesday during a change of command ceremony at spot 251 on the Travis flightline. Col. David Coley served as the 60th MXG commander for two years before the ceremony to transfer command to Col. Mark Weber, now 60th MXG commander. Under Coley's command, the 60th Maintenance Group generated more than 19,200 sorties and 12,200 missions, transporting 386 million pounds of fuel, delivering more than 90,000 tons of cargo, and 93,000 passengers supporting Operations Enduring Freedom, New Dawn, Odyssey Dawn, Unified Protector, Unified Response and Tomodachi. He also led in meeting the demands of Operation Pacific Passage, supporting the stateside transportation, lodging and safe evacuation of 2,617 military dependents from the 2011 Japanese earthquake and subsequent tsunami. Under his command, the Maintenance Group scored an overall excellent rating in the 2011 Air Mobility Command Logistics Compliance Program inspection. Coley will be travelling to Washington, D.C., with his wife and two children, to accept his new position at the Pentagon. "It has been the biggest honor of my career to command the 60th MXG and be part of the Travis leadership team and family," Coley said. "I will always cherish this assignment and all the great things we accomplished together." After relinquishing command to Col. Sones, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander, Coley stepped out of the way to make room for Sones to designate the new MXG commander, Col. Mark Weber, with the traditional passing of the guidon. "This is a tremendous opportunity to join such an accomplished and superior team," Weber said. "It is indeed an honor and I assure you that this team will continue to excel in achieving the wing's mission and that I will remain highly committed to stewarding this great institution and organization with which I have been trusted." Weber has numerous factors which qualify him to lead the 60th MXG. He was most recently the 305th Maintenance Group deputy commander at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., where he led more than 1,500 aircraft maintenance and aerial port Airmen in support of 16 C-17 Globemaster III and 32 KC-10 Extender aircraft and a vast operation supporting the United States' global air mobility. "I look forward to taking the group and team to the next level and building upon your solid, reputable foundation to achieve both optimum inspection and mission results," he said. "I cannot wait to meet, serve and lead each and every one of you and do everything I can to help you sustain your tremendous performance and track records of excellence and safety."
