9th ARS welcomes honorary commander Published Feb. 8, 2012 By Staff Sgt. Timothy Boyer 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The 9th Air Refueling Squadron welcomed Ron Myska, their honorary commander, and his employees, Wednesday for a tour of their squadron. They were able to fly a KC-10 Extender, go on a simulator, a tour of the control tower and an actual KC-10 aircraft. The honorary commander program is designed to strengthen partnerships between community leaders and Travis. "My relationship with Ron is very good," said Lt. Col. Mark Robinson, 9th ARS commander. "What we want to do now is get my Airmen and his employees together so they can go beyond the honorary commander program and develop lasting relationships." Robinson said Myska's business, All-Points Petroleum, is a good match for his squadron. "We do gas in the air, he does it on the ground," he said. "It's very similar, we both transfer fuel." "We have lot of common denominators so there was a lot to build our partnership on," Myska said. "We have procedures, safety issues and regulations in common, just to name a few things." The experience in the flight simulators and the tours of the tower and KC-10 made a lasting impact on Myska and his employees. "I am proud to be an honorary commander," Myska said. "I am proud of the men and women of the Air Force and the professionalism they show. I would just like to encourage them to keep up the good work."
