A Welcome Home Warrior event is scheduled Feb. 3 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Delta Breeze Ballroom to welcome home recent Travis deployers and to say farewell to those who are headed out on upcoming deployments. All of Travis is invited and there will be a disc jockey, kids' crafts, gift raffling for the warriors and free appetizers.

The event is a quarterly celebration that focuses on military members who have returned from a deployment and their families. While Welcome Home Warrior events have taken place on Travis before, this is the first one that will incorporate Airmen who are departing for deployments as well. It will also be the first time the event is organized by the Staff Sergeant Technical Sergeant Association Reaching Success.

Tech. Sgt. Allan Bane, STARS president and David Grant USAF Medical Center Intensive-care Unit technician, said STARS hopes to give the Welcome Home Warrior events a different spin and energize it with new ideas that encourage more Airmen and their families to attend.

"We hope to show our sincere appreciation to the military members that made the sacrifice of deploying and those about to deploy," Bane said. "The event hopes to bring recognition to let the military members know as comrades we understand the sacrifice both the member and family make and hope to show some gratitude as they return and depart."

Col. Dwight Sones, 60th Air Mobility Wing commander, said Welcome Home Warrior is another great opportunity to recognize our military members and build camaraderie within the Travis family.

"As our three Travis wings continue to maintain an incredibly robust deployment schedule, this is a tremendous way to ensure our Airmen know that we are here for them and their families before, throughout and after a deployment," Sones said. "It lets our Airmen know we understand and appreciate the sacrifices made by both the service member and their families."

For those in the military, the wear will be the uniform of the day, and civilians may wear casual attire. For more information, contact Bane at (916) 295-8917.
