The Travis Fitness Center offers a variety of fitness classes for Airmen and their families to help make their New Year's resolutions a reality.

Some of the fitness classes available focus on cardiovascular workouts including a spin class, step class, turbokick and hip-hop class. Other classes offered focus on strength training and specialty classes such as body sculpting, Yoga, Pilates, Zumba and weight training.

Some fitness programs at Travis can help Airmen stay fit to fight.

"There are programs that we offer at 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, that are fit camp tailored for people to pass their PT test," said Tech. Sgt. Joshua Trenkle, Travis Fitness Center NCO in-charge.

The fitness center also provides intramural sports programs open to Travis Airmen, civilians and dependents. Currently, the fitness center features intramural basketball games starting at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Airmen can also sign up for racquetball and volleyball which will begin in February.

"It's another great opportunity for the Airmen to stay in shape by working out without really realizing it," said Staff Sgt. Alex Scheel, Travis Fitness Center sports director. "It's a good way to get out there and enjoy your time with people that you work with, but not being at work."

In addition to the classes and sports programs, the fitness center will be hosting numerous upcoming events including a dodge ball tournament in February, a bench press competition in March and an Armed Forces fun run in April, Trenkle said.

Airmen can also attend various certification courses and workshops to improve their body and mind. The courses Airmen can receive include personal trainer, military fitness specialist, primary group exercise and practical skills and choreography certifications.

With the different fitness options available, it is important to set realistic goals and have a plan, Trenkle said.

"If they have the wingman concept, where they have somebody to workout with them, that helps too."
