Travis to host P90X creator Tony Horton Published Oct. 21, 2011 By 2nd Lt. Katie Batchelder 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Travis is scheduled to host Tony Horton, creator of the P90X fitness program, for a two-day visit Oct. 27 and 28. With mass workouts planned both days, a motivational fitness rally, a book signing and a physical fitness test challenge versus Travis' own Airmen, this visit looks to get Travis motivated and enthusiastic about fitness and healthy living. According to Horton, his main focus in visiting military bases is to continue to share what he knows about fitness and how valuable a healthy lifestyle is to overall mental and physical health. Horton plans to share his "11 Laws of Fitness" at the motivational fitness rally on Oct. 28, open to the base community. Horton has toured the globe educating and inspiring individuals to develop and sustain a healthy lifestyle. He said visiting U.S. military bases gives him a chance to give back to service members. When he discovered many military members were using P90X in Iraq and Afghanistan, he wanted to meet the men and women who were using the program while serving our country. "Something deep inside says that it's the right thing to do," he said. "Without you, I don't get to do what I do. [Our military] makes sure that I can go on these tours and do what I do, this is my opportunity to give back." When asked why he wanted to come to Travis and share his fitness philosophy, Horton said he's a huge fan of airpower. "I love the Air Force," he said, "and the opportunity to go to one more base and share what I know is tremendous." He said he hopes Travis Airmen use what they learn at his workouts and motivational rally so they can "crush physical training tests instead of letting them crush you." It's not just about being fit for the test, but also instilling a fitness philosophy for use in life, he said. During his visit to Travis, Horton is scheduled to challenge Airmen in the Air Force fitness test to see firsthand what challenges Airmen face, as meeting the fitness test standard is not only vital to healthy living, but vital on the battlefield. Events are open to all members of Travis. Horton will be available for a book signing at the Exchange Oct. 27 from 1 to 2:45 p.m. For more information, please contact the 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs office at 424-2011.
