Tuskegee Airmen's Ball: A salute to 70 years of aviation excellence Published Oct. 12, 2011 By Tamara Jones 60th Air Mobility Wing TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The annual Tuskegee Airman's Ball takes place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 22, at the Delta Breeze Club at Travis. The event will feature guest speaker Capt. Edward Woodard, a Documented Original Tuskegee Airman who trained fighter pilots stationed in Italy in the Fighting 99th Pursuit Squadron. The keynote speaker for the event is Milton Chen, Ph.D., executive director of the George Lucas Educational Fund, a non profit organization that utilizes multi media platforms to educate student through visionary means in the 21st century. Dr. Chen is dubbed the "Jedi master" of education and training and will be speaking on the dynamics of education. Proceeds from this event benefit the Northern California Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen Inc., whose mission is to preserve the honor and accomplishments of the African-Americans who valiantly served as pilots, aircrew, ground crew, operations and training support in the Army Air Corps during World War II. The Tuskegee Airmen Inc. also introduces youth to the world of aviation and science through national programs such as Young Eagles. The TAI also provides annual scholarships to youth interested in aviation, science and mathematics. The DBC is located at 400 Windward Drive.
