Earlier this year, Air Force Services sent out information announcing three camps; Teen Aviation, Teen Leadership and Space Camp.

To be considered, each teen was required to fill out a nomination registration form and complete essay questions about their camp of choice.

Four teens from Travis were submitted for the USAF Teen Advanced Leadership Camp and all four, Elizabeth Hubbard, Katrina Bernales, Angel Thornton and Shaczar Brown, were selected.

The camp is scheduled for July 11 through 15 at the University of Texas, San Antonio.
Each student had to complete two essays to qualify for the program. The first essay explained their vision, goal and aspirations for future endeavors. The second essay defined and described a "mentor" in their own lives.

In addition, the students were evaluated on honors, awards, community service and grade point averages.

While attending the camp, the teens will participate in team building, public speaking and several other activities that teach them leadership skills and how to work as a team, said Susan Brown.

"I want to gain essential leadership skills and become a better rounded student," said 14-year-old Elizabeth.

The teens have an opportunity to participate in the camp and interact with teens from all over the world.

"This is my first time going to a camp like this," said 14-year-old Angel. "I'm hoping this camp teaches us to be role models and to do things on our own."
