AFRC event looks to aid resolutions Published Jan. 21, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Michael Battles 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE,Calif. -- The Airman and Family Readiness Center held the first "New Years, New Goals" event Jan. 12, for all Airman and their families who not only want to start a New Year's resolution, but want to develop a plan to keep the resolution all year. The AFRC brought in specialists to council Airman and their families in all areas from finance, fitness, personal and professional development, spiritual, educational and career opportunities. "The event was a complete success," said Mustak Keval, AFRC director. "We had all of the resources and experts, so I hope everyone was able to take away a plan for the new year." In 2011, the AFRC will offer a wide range of classes which are available to all military affiliated members, such as "Seven Habits for Highly Effective People," which is a motivational workshop that helps guide the path to spiritual, physical, mental and social fitness. "The event gave us a chance to get familiar with the AFRC and the community," said Airman 1st Class Suman Rao, 60th Medical Support Squadron forward logistics specialist. "The AFRC brought every resource that a person would need to start the New Year off right, which is amazing. Where else would you get this kind of support?" In the spring, the AFRC will begin "Fabulous Fridays," which will be a time for Team Travis to come together and build a community. The Friday event will include refreshments, giveaways, movie showings and other activities. "The idea of the event was to get people started on their New Year goals," said Najette Pinero, AFRC resource coordinator. "As members progress in the near future, they can count on the helping agencies that were part of the event to guide them towards meeting their goals. Because our event was a complete success, we plan on making this an annual event." Team Travis members who were unable to attend the event can set up an appointment at the AFRC with a Military One Source life coach who can mentor on any of the Comprehensive Airman Fitness pillars.
