Face painters prepare Travis youth for the pirate themed "Voyage to Book Island" summer reading program finale July 30. Mitchell Memorial Library at Travis participated in the "Voyage to Book Island" and recieved overwhelming response from Travis Airmen and thier families. During the six-week program, 340 children registered for the program, 4,240 children's books were checked out and 969 children and family members participated in weekly story times, game zones and lunch bunch gatherings on the library lawn. Kelly the Clown teaches Travis youth about the importance of reading during the event. During the summer of 2010, the Department of Defense funded the first ever DoD-wide summer reading program. All Air Force, Navy, Army and Marine Corps libraries, who serve children, were offered funding support for the "Voyage to Book Island" summer reading program.
