For most military members, deployment is a way of life. It comes with its struggles and triumphs, but Team Travis spouses, family, and friends, come together to send off our Airmen in grand fashion before they deploy.

Operation Proud Farewell is an organization that brings food, fun, and laughs to Airmen before they depart for missions around the world.
Operation Proud Farewell happens hours before the Airmen are due to board the aircraft that will take them to their new location. Volunteers set up tables with snacks and drinks that are donated from the community.

"The Airmen are so appreciative and respond with many sincere thanks," said Pamela Mansfield, one of the coordinators of the organization. "It's a wonderful feeling to help give that little bit of extra support and appreciation as they walk out the door."

Bernice Payne, former president of the medical spouse's organization, started Operation Proud Farewell in Oct. 2008, as a way to thank Travis Airmen for their service. It's also a way to boost morale and provide much-needed encouragement to both the Airmen and their families.

Mrs. Mansfield, who has been an active member in the organization since April 2009, said "Many are so surprised that we are there and you can tell that they are touched by this unexpected 'farewell line.'"

The event gives the chance for Airmen to socialize with other service members from their career field as well as Airmen from all across the base that will be with them on the deployment. The service members eat, play cards, and clear their minds before departing on their journey.

The OPF offers bags to the Airman so they can stock up for their long trip ahead with snacks, drinks, magazines and Bibles. The group accepts non-perishable snacks as well as monetary donations that are much needed to keep the spirit and dedication of this organization possible.
