National Save a Life Tour returns to Travis Published Nov. 4, 2009 By 60th Air Mobility Wing Safety Office TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The high impact alcohol awareness tour is returning to Travis for two days on Nov.12 and 13. The Save a Life Tour was developed due to America's high-number of staggering alcohol-related motor-vehicle incidents. The program educates people about the dangers of getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol through the use of cutting-edge technology and a no-holds-barred attitude. With a commanding video and a state-of-the-art drinking and driving simulator, the goal of the tour is to create enough impact to cause people to think twice about drinking and then getting behind the wheel. The tragedy of a motor-vehicle fatality can leave families devastated, degrade mission capability and create a void that can never be replaced. General Arthur Lichte, commander, Air Mobility Command, has asked "every Airmen to be responsible, on- and off duty, for their actions and make appropriate risk management decisions. I expect nothing less than every Airman to take an active, responsible role in mitigating risks. The loss of even one Airman has a profound effect on our Air Force, the organization and its people, and most importantly, their families." "This presentation is mandatory for all Team Travis personnel between the ages of 18 and 25," said Col. Jim Vechery, 60th AMW commander. "We are aiming to grasp the attention and educate America's young drivers since they are the key to lowering alcohol-related vehicle incidents. We hope this event will assist in creating responsible drivers and a safer driving environment for everyone. Driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, cell phone use and texting are habits that are killing youth. Executive order now prohibits cell phone use while operating vehicles for federal and military employees and is now punishable by Uniformed Code of Military Justice action. Texting and cell-phone use without a hands-free headset is illegal in the state of California. The National Save a Life Tour is at the Travis Base Theater from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each session is one hour long beginning on the hour.
