Step out and step up to better health Published Sept. 23, 2009 Travis Health and Wellness Center TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The temperature's cool and the colors are spectacular. It's the perfect time to get outside and take strides toward a fitness habit that lasts through October -- and beyond. Beginning now, Travis members can sign up for the Health and Wellness Center's Walktober program. This 31-day program is designed to make stepping up your physical activity fun and help Travis members stay on track by recording their steps through an interactive, web-based log form. Members will also receive quick, easy-to-apply tips to help each person focus on their Walktober goals via email. Participants can upload and share photos of their Walktober experiences and use Map Walk, a mapping tool to create walking routes from home or work. Additionally, Walktober members will receive articles about the benefits of walking, links to health and fitness Web sites as well as recipes. Registration has begun and is open to active duty, Reserve, Guard, family members, retirees and civilian members. Those wishing to participate may also sign up as a 3 or 5-person team. To register go to htravisafbhawc.walktober.com. The first 24 people to register will receive a Walktober t-shirt and all participants will receive a pedometer that can be picked up at the HAWC. At the conclusion of the program, individual and team prizes will be handed out. Registration deadline is Oct. 4. For more information or questions, contact Staff Sgt. Joseph Carrillo at 424-2946.
