The Honorable Kevin Johnson, Mayor of Sacramento, Gen. Arthur J. Lichte, Air Mobility Command commander, and the Honorable Susan Peters, chair of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, held a joint-press conference announcing the event scheduled for Sept. 5 through 13. Taking place at a variety of locations in the Sacramento area, Air Force Week is an opportunity for the local community to meet the men and women of the Air Force, hear their stories of service in support of the Global War on Terrorism and view the many aerial demonstrations and events scheduled throughout the week. "We are so excited to be partnered with Travis and to be a part of Air Force Week. We are honored and delighted to be hosting this event," said Mayor Johnson. Supervisor Peters also shared her thoughts about hosting the event. "The [military] has always maintained a strong presence in Sacramento ... this is a great opportunity for our community to salute the Air Force," she said. Air Force Week activities will officially open with a proclamation signing at the California Capitol by Air Force officials and distinguished guests. Other activities will include performances by the Tops In Blue, air-to-air refueling missions, a country concert, and the week will wrap up with performances by the Thunderbirds, the Air Force's premier aerial demonstration team, at Mather Airport. General Lichte then took the stage on behalf of Air Mobility Command to speak about the unique event. "The 132,000 men and women from the regular, Reserve and Air National Guard components who fall under my command share a special commitment with our fellow citizens and welcome the chance to showcase how they put the 'global' into the Air Force's vision," said General Lichte. "To showcase your Airmen, Air Force Week will deliver a 'slam dunk' full of music, entertainment and aircraft. We're eager for the chance to let Americans see and experience the great capabilities of their Air Force - the best Air Force in the world."
