In this week's segment supporting the Air Force Assistance Fund drive, we're going to continue our discussion about the different charities that benefit from this campaign. Today let's talk about the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation.

Established in 1987, the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation was built around the concept of providing financial aid to indigent widows in need of assistance, wherever they reside, and for as long as necessary ... even for a lifetime. This premise is based upon the belief that "these widows spend much of their lives coping with the difficulties of military life and supporting their spouses through years of active duty." As such, the foundation states: "we believe that military spouses are entitled to a decent standard of living, entitled to live with dignity, and entitled to be proud of their service. We consider it a privilege to be a part of this noble endeavor."

Located on the premises of Air Force Village West in Riverside, Calif., the LeMay Foundation supports widows of any retired Air Force personnel. In recent years, at the request of Mrs. LeMay, the foundation has also extended financial assistance to other non-Air Force widows residing in AFVW. All financial aid is given out gratis, with no strings attached. Any money received by a widow is considered a grant, not a loan.

Additionally, there is no time limit or monetary cap placed on any widow in need. This is the motto of the foundation in action: Taking Care of Our Own! For further information on the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation visit their Web site at www.lemay-foundation.org.

As a reminder, the 2009 Travis Air Force Assistance Fund campaign is up and running,
and will continue through April 20. A multitude of fundraisers will take place throughout the campaign, to include a bowl-a-thon on April 3 and a golf tournament on April 13.

Additionally, every Friday there will be a bake sale located at the Airman and Family Readiness Center and David Grant USAF Medical Center. See the base marquee, the Commander's Access Channel, the Team Travis Sharepoint homepage and listen to the Travis Radio Station AM890 for all the event details. The AFAF campaign is designed to help the Air Force family. At Team Travis, let's work together to reach our goal of raising $115, 449. To contribute, contact your squadron representative to fill out a donation form.
