"Be a Star in Someone's Life" is the theme for the 2008 Travis Combined Federal Campaign that runs Oct. 15 through Nov. 26.

CFC, the largest annual workplace charity campaign in the United States, collects contributions from federal employees, including servicemembers, on behalf of different charitable organizations.

"Our campaign goal is to raise $400,000," said Maj. Jannell MacAulay, CFC campaign executive.

The campaign kicks off Oct. 16 with a base-wide breakfast burrito sale.

Also in the works is a base-wide picnic with more information to be announced at a later date.
While Major MacAulay is Travis' executive for the campaign and 2nd Lt. Bridger Lord is the assistant, each group and squadron/unit has identified a "key worker" to lead them through the campaign.

"The key workers are an integral part to our success," Major MacAulay said.
The key workers help pass on critical information regarding the campaign, and can answer questions as well as collect donation forms.

For those interested in donating, contributions will be accepted in the form of cash, check and payroll deduction. Payroll deduction is the most common form of donation because it allows servicemembers to give more and have a small amount deducted from their paycheck each month, Major MacAulay said. More than 90 percent of last year's funds were collected through payroll deduction, which allows the donor to spread the contribution across an entire year.
While the major said $400,000 is the dollar amount, the primary goal of the campaign is to increase the number of participants by 10 percent.

"Donating a modest amount of your paycheck each month can add up to a significant and meaningful gift throughout the year," she said. "Just one dollar per paycheck will make a difference in someone's life.

"Many of us have reaped the benefits of these terrific agencies, now it's our chance to give something back in appreciation."

The Fisher House, Youth Activities, Teddy's Child Watch, Family Services and Child Development are the local organizations the donations aid. The CFC provides the opportunity to support human health and welfare charitable agencies that are fighting mental illness, emotional anguish, cancer, starvation, human despair, heart disease, environmental destruction, civil rights and a host of other challenges.

In 2007, federal employees collectively raised $273 million for the cause.
