MXS Warriors softball team wins base championship Published Aug. 21, 2008 By Joel Perry 60th MXS Warriors coach TRAVIS AIR FORCE BASE, Caif. -- On Aug. 12, the MXS Warriors softball team met the 60th Operations Support Squadron to play for the base championship. The OSS was the representative for the small squadron team and the Warriors were the large squadron reps. Both teams had to win two games prior to their meeting. The Warriors played the Scrubs from David Grant USAF Medical Center in the first game. They rose to the task and beat the scrubs. Next, the warriors had to face a tough nemesis, the 615th Contingency Response Wing, the base champions for the last two years. The Warriors started off the game by putting up 10 runs in the first inning. This set the tone for the rest of the game. The CRW team had six or seven Team Travis players on the roster, and were not going down without a fight. When the dust had settled in the seventh inning, the Warriors we're the victors of a hard fought game. Next came the championship game and both teams had but one goal in mind, to win it. The warriors were up to bat first and scored three runs to start the show. OSS answered right back with two of their own. By the second inning the score was tied at three a piece, by the fourth it was seven a piece. Both teams were playing their hearts out and making good defensive plays. By the sixth inning it was tied again at 11 runs a piece. But the Warriors broke it open in the seventh and held off a tough OSS team. After losing all four pre-season games and the first three of the regular season, the Warriors still managed to take the crown and become the 2008 baseball champions.
