New MXG commander looks to continue stellar reputation Published July 15, 2008 By Senior Airman Shaun Emery 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs TRAVIS AFB, Calif. -- With all three Travis Air Force Base weapons systems, the C-5 Galaxy, C-17 Globemaster III and the KC-10 Extender providing a fitting backdrop, the 60th Maintenance Group welcomed their new commander, at a change-of-command ceremony July 8 on the Travis flightline. Col. Carol Johnson arrives from Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Fort Lesley J. McNair, where she was a student. Prior to that, she served as executive officer to the Assistant Vice Chief of Staff at the Pentagon. As 60th MXG commander, Colonel Johnson will direct, manage and coordinate all activities for the five squadrons that encompass over 2,000 personnel managing three weapon systems. She is the logistics subject matter expert on all logistical support issues for the air mobility wing. After assuming command, Colonel Johnson took to the podium and expressed her feelings on taking command. "You'll find that I love being a maintainer," she said. "I wouldn't do anything else. It's the men and women who stand before you today that make me love what I do and motivate me every day. It's the tireless efforts they go through each and every day and night, 365 days-a-year to perform the mission they've been given to do." "It's not glamorous and they surely don't do it for the pay. But they do it in the heat and in the cold and in far away places and they don't ask for praise or reward ... only to return safely to their families. Each one is critical in accomplishing our global mission. I am honored to take command of the 60th Maintenance Group today. I look forward to continued success, continued partnerships with the EMTF, the CRW, the 349th and the local communities. I look forward to having a lot of fun and as always, providing unrivaled global reach for America."
